On October 19, 2012, the Food and Drug Administration announced that Energizer Holdings Inc issued a voluntary market withdrawal for continuous spray Banana Boat products. The products can ignite on the skin from an open flame if the products is are not completely dried.
The products are being voluntarily removed from retail stores because the size of the spray valve is too big. The valve is reported to dispense more product than other sun care sprays in the industry, and the product is taking longer to dry. If the consumer gets close to an open flame or spark, the product could ignite. So far, Energizer Holdings Inc. has received four reports about ignitions involved with Banana Boat Sport Ultramist SPF 30 and 50.
