Big Lots Announces Recall of Garden Swings

On September 26, 2012, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Big Lots was issuing a voluntary recall of Wilson & Fisher Garden Swings.  Big Lots encourages consumers to stop using this product immediately because of a fall hazard.

There were an estimated 6,900 units manufactured by Anji Jiayi Garden Supplies Company in Xiaofeng Town, China.  The Big Lots in Columbus, Ohio imported the swings and sold them in various states.

Big Lots has decided to issue the voluntary recall because there are reports of the swing’s seat breaking while in use, which can cause serious injuries once the user falls.  Big Lots has received a total of 14 reports of the swing breaking while in use so far.  There are four reports of victims sustaining back pain, and there are five reports of sustained scratches and scrapes.

The swings were sold across the nation from March of 2012 to June of 2012 for approximately $130.  The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that the recalled product is the “log-style” Wilson & Fisher swing set with the natural wood finish.  The swing has a bench seat for two people that is suspended with two A-frame supports.  The assembly instructions have the item number JY1107 and SKU number 210020400 printed on the sheets.

Big Lots wants consumers to stop using the product immediately.  They can detach the bench seat and return it to the Big Lots store for a full refund.  Big Lots wants consumers to destroy the rest of the swing after return the bench seat.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission stresses that any attempt to resell this product or successful resell is illegal.  The Commission is still open to incident and injury reports related to this product.  To make a report, go to http://saferproducts.gov.
