On November 8, 2012, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that certain Diamondback bicycles were being recalled because parts of the bicycle can fail and cause the rider to crash at significant speeds.  Consumers need to stop using this product immediately.  

The recalled product is the 2013 Diamondback Steilacoom RCX bicycle, and there are about 40 units affected by the recall.  The bicycle was manufactured in Guang Zhou, China by Universal Cycle Corp and imported by Diamondback Bicycles in Kent, Washington.  

The company reports that some of the bicycles may be assembled incorrectly with the wrong headset parts.  In such a case, the steering tube can fail and cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle.  These bicycles are designed to travel at fast speeds, and crashing the bicycle at such a speed can cause serious injury.  

The 2013 Diamondback Steilacoom RCX is only available in black and comes in sizes from 50-cm to 59-cm.  The bikes can be used on or off-road, and the letters “RCX” appear on the top tube of the bike.  

The bicycles were sold at Diamondback retailers and online at Promotive.com and 3point5.com.  They were sold across the nation from August to September of 2012 for about $900 to $1100.  

Again, you need to stop using this product immediately.  Do not attempt to ride the bicycle until you take it to an authorized Diamondback dealer and receive a free inspection.  If your bicycle contains the wrong headset parts, the company will replace the fork and install the new headset parts for free.
