On November 8, 2012, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that LG Electronics is recalling several models of electric ranges because they pose a burn and fire hazard.  Consumer needs to stop using these products immediately.  

The ranges were manufactured in South Korea and Mexico and sold at retailers like Home Depot, Best Buy, Sears, and more between January 2006 and June 2010 for about $800 to $1999.  LG reports that about 161,000 appliances are affected by this recall.  

The CPSC reports that some of the ranges fail to turn off and others can increase in temperature without a consumer touching the controls.  There have been a total of 80 reports about the burners failing to turn off or the temperature increasing by itself, but no injuries have been reported so far.  

The models affected by the recall are LRE30451, LRE30453, LRE30755, LRE30757, and LRE30955ST.  These models are sold in black, white, and stainless steel, and they come with a black top made of ceramic glass.  The models have serial numbers that begin with one of the following: 512, 601, 602, 603, 604, 605, 606, 607, 608, 609, 610, 611, 612, 701, 702, 703, 704, 705, 706, 707, 708, 709, 710, 711, 712, 801, 802, 803, 804, 805, 806, 807, 808, 809, 810, 901, 902, 903, 904, 905, or 906.

In order to find the model and serial numbers, open the storage drawer at the bottom of the range and look for the label on the front edge behind the drawer.  The ranges are about 47½ inches tall, 29 inches wide and 28 inches deep.  

Affected consumers need to contact LG right away to schedule an in-home repair for free.  You can call LG at (855) 400-4638 during regular business hours and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
