On September 24, 2012, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Office of Defects Investigation announced a recall for multiple models of child restraints. The first set of models numbers are listed below:

BRITAX / Chaperone E9L692K (RED)

The models of the child seat harness were produced between September 1, 2010 and April 30, 2011, and there are potentially 14, 220 units affected.
The models are being recalled between the harness adjuster can detach from the seat shell. If the harness adjuster detaches, the child will not be properly restrained during an accident which could lead to injury or death.
BRITAX has agreed to notify all owners and send repair kits for free of charge by mail beginning on February 7, 2012. If the harness has detached, the car sheet will be replaced for free.
The second set of models numbers are listed below:
BRITAX / Chaperone 9L69P5 COWMOO
BRITAX / Chaperone E9L69N9 MOONSTO
BRITAX / Chaperone E9L69P2 RED MIL
BRITAX / Chaperone E9L69P3 SAVANNA
The second set of models numbers were produced from April 11, 2009 to May 31, 2010. There are possible 17,251 units affected by the recall.
The models are being recalled because the chest clip was not produced correctly which may result in the clip becoming brittle. A broken chest clip could present a risk for a skin laceration or a choking hazard if small parts break off.
BRITAX has agreed to replace the chest clip and mail the affected consumers. The company will begin sending new chest clips and an instruction sheet on November 12, 2010. Consumers can call the BRITAX customer service department at (888) 427-4829 for more information. Consumers can also call the National Highway Safety Administrators Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236.
