On November 13, 2012, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Nielson-Kellerman Co is voluntarily recalling a type of microphone because the product can shock and burn the face.  Consumers need to stop using this product immediately and contact Nielsen-Kellerman for a replacement.

The microphones were manufactured in the United States by Nielsen-Kellerman Co in Boothwyn, Pennsylvania.  The microphones were then sold online and at NK dealers around the world for about $99.  The CPSC reports that about 7,500 microphones are affected by the recall.  

The specific type of microphone is used by navigators or coxswain on racing row boats in order to steer and direct the rowers.  The microphone has a blue headband and a U-shaped base.  The small black microphone is made of metal and attached to one end of the U-shaped piece.  The NK logo is located on the headband, and there is a yellow warning label on the cable.  

The recall is for the NK R2 microphone that was manufactured prior to September 1, 2012.  The microphone is compatible with Cox Box and Cox Mini voice amplifiers.  

NK has received three reports of an exposed speaker wire or connector causing second-degree burns on the face after the metal boom touched the face.
