On November 27, 2012, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that The Toro Co issued a voluntary recall of several models of the Toro® Z Master® Riding Mower. Consumers need to stop using these mowers immediately because they pose a fire hazard.
The traction drive belt on the mower can wear through the fuel tank and cause a leak and possible fire hazard. The company has received five reports of incidences occurring with the traction drive belt, but no injuries have been reported.
The CPSC reports that about 2,600 mowers are affected by this recall in the United States, and about 31 products are affected in Canada. The tractors were sold in Toro dealers in the United States from January 2012 to August 2012. They were sold for about $7,700 to $8,700.
The recall includes the 2012 Toro Z Master Commercial 2000 Series ZRT riding mowers. You can find the model and serial numbers on the metal plate on the front of the mower and underneath the seat. The following model numbers and serial numbers are associated with the recall:
• model number 74141 and serial numbers 312000101 to 312000784
• model number 74143 and serial numbers 312000101 to 312000887
• model number 74145 and serial numbers 312000101 to 312001178
All of the recalled mowers are red and black and have the words “Z Master Commercial” printed on the front. If you believe you’re affected by this recall, you need to contact your Toro dealer immediately and schedule a free repair or inspection. If you’re a registered owner, you will receive phone call.
